Hi all! I'm new to the forum. I have a 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport Limited 2.0t and I started to smell a faint fuel odor inside my vehicle and just recently the smell became stronger. I know my way around cars a little bit so I took out the rear seat and checked out the fuel pump. When I lifted the metal plate cover the top of the pump was wet and the dirt seemed to have soaked up the fuel. I cleaned it off with a rag and used a compress air can to blow off any other debris and also to dry up the liquid. Once i've done that I turned the car back on just to run the pump and noticed that the area is wet again. I could not see where it is coming from but it seems like it is coming from the base of the tube connections. I did a little research and according to my findings Hyundai issued out an extended warranty for my vehicle (vin # starting with 5NP) "Fuel Pump Filter Warranty Extension (TXXS)" and it had this on the list of description: "Issue covered: Internally leaking fuel pump filter housing". So i called my local dealership and i was told that it is for the filter assembly only, but their tech will need to inspect it for a fee of $240 to see if its covered under the extended warranty. The advisor then stated that "the warranty will cover the filter assembly only". Anyone in this forum have this issue? I assume that filter that attaches to the pump is the only thing that is covered ($30 part) and not the entire pump ($400+ part). The advisor could not tell me if the filter itself can be detached and swapped out and reattached to the same pump. So now I am debating to have the dealership diagnose the issue and if not the pump and only the filter have them do it and pay for their cost of the pump OR go to my nearest auto shop store and get an after market fuel pump and filter and replace it my self for less than the dealer would do it for. I would like to know what you all's thoughts are on this scenario. Thanks in advance.
